Full Anniversary Year for Porthtowan Players
The Porthtowan Players are still working hard in celebration of their 40th Anniversary Year.
Players Chair, Carole Mitchell, said “Cramming four separate productions into one year (plus a few extra events, such as a celebration dinner dance, and a quiz night) has been a bit like being on a non-stop roller coaster, but we wanted to make this a year to remember!”
Following a spectacular pantomime, “Beauty and the Beast” in February, was a very successful run of the black comedy, “Natural Causes”, during May. While that was running, the rest of the group started singing practice for the summer song and dance show – “As Time Goes By”, which is now in full rehearsal. The final show of the year will be a Youth Group production – “Wings of Desire”.
“However, we will still manage to squeeze in our usual Christmas celebration evening in December, for anyone who wants to round the year off with us!” Carole added.
The Players current production, “As Time Goes By”, is subtitled “Musicals and Memories”. Director Richard Hocking explained “This year’s summer show is a celebration of music which has inspired us over our 40 years of productions. We have therefore included songs from some of the musicals we have presented in the past, as well as our usual selection from more recent and current West End musicals. This year, however, is not all about musicals, and we have also included other music which has provided material for our early Summer Variety shows and our pantomimes. I think that audiences will appreciate the way that the group’s singing has developed over the last few years, and also enjoy the comedy which runs through this production. As usual, the show is full of movement and has wonderful costumes, and we hope old and new friends will join us for this celebration show. It would be great to see any former members – we have a special 40th Anniversary souvenir programme that they might like to keep.”
“As Time Goes By” runs at the Porthtowan Village Hall on Thursdays 13th, 20th, and 27th August, Friday 28th August, and Thursday 3rd September, starting at 7.30pm.
